High profit grain farming in northern Australia

Grain growers have traditionally had one of the strongest annual rises in productivity, but it's important not to become complacent because of the current strong grain prices, the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) warns.

A report commissioned by the GRDC) High profit farming in northern Australia, looks at advances in technology that could be adopted to greatly increase grain yields in the northern region.

Author Peter Wylie says there have been significant improvements to the region's cropping systems over the past 20 years.

But there are still many farmers who could do more to fine tune their systems and profitability.

"Grain production is set to change dramatically in the short term, with demand for grain as an energy source, creating a new era of profitability," Dr Wylie said.
