INT804 – a new wheat herbicide from a new group
Interfarm UK Ltd is developing a new wheat herbicide, INT804 from a new group. Based on the new active ingredient flumioxazin, INT804 is a contact and residual acting herbicide, offering excellent control of a wide range of broad-leaved weeds as well as useful control of annual meadow-grass and black-grass.
"INT804 is a new molecule for the UK market and is from the phenylphthalimide group. It appears to have useful activity from pre-emergence to early post-emergence in winter wheat up to GS14, once the crop has hardened off and has been proven to be safe across a range of varieties. It gives high levels of control of many broad-leaved weeds, including those that are regarded as more difficult to control with current products, as well as offering useful effects on some grass-weeds. In trials when applied early post-emergence at 30 gms a.i./ha, flumioxazin gave 100% control of charlock, chickweed, fumitory, groundsel, field pansy, red deadnettle, ivy-leaved speedwell and mayweed, 99% control of cleavers, common field speedwell and Shepherds purse and 95% control of poppy. It also gave up to 90% control of annual meadow-grass and 65% control of black-grass," reports Dr. David Stormonth, Technical Manager, Interfarm (UK) Ltd.
"Being a new herbicide group with a different mode of action, INT804 will also make a useful contribution to black-grass control when used in mixes and sequences. Flumioxazin is different from all other products currently in use for weed control and will make a significant contribution to the effective management of grass-weed species which have developed resistance to many chemical groups currently used," points out Dr. Stormonth.
