Irish waste management company shortlisted for CIWM International award
Laois based business, LSM (Engineering) Waste Equipment Ltd, has recently been shortlisted for the Plant & Equipment of the Year Award in this year’s CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence. The International Awards, which recognise those companies making a significant impact on the environment industry, will take place on 5th November in London. LSM, which manufacturers a range of commercial waste and custom made balers, has been nominated for its innovative Agri Waste Baler.
The Agricultural Waste Regulations that came into action throughout England and Wales in 2006 now categorizes agricultural waste as industrial waste. This had a major impact on farmers and their business operations as they are now exposed to the same legislative controls as other industries. However, one exemption of the regulation is that farmers are permitted to bale their own low hazardous waste on site. This includes materials such as agricultural plastics, packaging, silage wrap, feed bags, mulch films, spay cans, chemical containers, cardboard and tyres. Having recognised the gap in this market, LSM set about customising and designing a baler to cater for the agricultural sector. They introduced the Agri Waste Baler to the market in 2007.
John Cummins, Sales Director at LSM, states, ’Being nominated for such a prestigious award is a testament to the ingenuity and creativity that makes Irish businesses so desirable. We invest a lot in research and try to encourage our workforce to be as creative as possible when developing solutions for clients. We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for this award.’
