Joint UK stand to offer horticulture advice at Logistica

Those with an interest in seed potatoes and horticultural produce from Britain are urged to visit Potato Council and the Horticultural Development Company (HDC) on their first-ever joint stand at this year’s Fruit Logistica.

Plus for the first time the two divisions of the UK’s Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) will be hosting a reception at their stand located in Hall 8.2/A-07, on Thursday 7th February from 4.30pm-6pm, for all potato and horticultural attendees.

Plant health experts from Scottish Government and Potato Council will be on-hand to talk to visitors about the qualities of GB seed potatoes, how the GB seed certification system protects plant health and why GB varieties grow so successfully in countries around the world.

Despite challenging conditions experienced by GB growers last season, the seed potato supply this year is on track, according to Potato Council’s Head of Seed and Export, Rob Burns.

"Even though the 2012 season was tough, seed exports from GB continue to be strong and tonnages so far are in line with the previous record-breaking season. We are confident this is set to continue and we’ll be happy to speak to visitors about this and the key benefits of British seed."

Mr Burns adds "Our seed breeders and growers will also be there on the stand so please come along to network, meet clients and attend our informal reception."

HDC will showcase to the world’s largest export audience the breadth and quality of produce grown in Britain.

Dr Bill Parker, Director of HDC, added: "Horticulture in the UK is a highly diverse and innovative industry. It accounts for about 3% of the UK’s non-grass cropped area, yet its growers produce more than 300 types of vegetable, salad and fruit crops, to say nothing of a huge range of ornamental plants and flowers."

"HDC is delighted to be able to demonstrate the breadth of produce grown and to provide growers with the opportunity to explore new markets by attending Fruit Logistica and joining us at the Reception."
