Learn more about respiratory disease

Intervet has announced its sponsorship of a series of infectious bronchitis (IB) seminars this summer. The four one-day events will take place during July and September in Peebles, Newmarket, Cheltenham and Worksop, and will provide delegates with an in-depth look at the disease from some recognised industry experts.

The seminars are aimed at anyone within the poultry industry with an interest in the management of what is widely accepted to be one of the most economically important diseases.

Richard Jones from Liverpool University will discuss the impact of IB on the reproductive tract in layers and Jane Cook will put into context the relative importance of the many IB variants, looking at how and why they occur and, importantly, how to protect birds from infection.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum’s involvement in the respiratory disease complex will be the topic of Janet Bradbury’s presentation. Janet will discuss its prevalence and highlight the impact the disease has on the health status of the bird.

The practical aspects of respiratory vaccine application to layers will be presented by Ranger vet Stephen Lister, with particular emphasis on ways of improving their effectiveness and reducing costs.

Each day will be concluded by a presentation from Intervet International’s poultry specialist Goossen van den Bosch. Goossen will present new trial data comparing the practical and commercial benefits of using classical and variant IB vaccines in ways that meet local production conditions. The dates of the seminars are:

• 19th July – Edinburgh

• 20th July – Newmarket

• 1st September – Cheltenham

• 2nd September – Worksop

Attendance is free, although places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Those who register by the end of May also have the chance to win one of five iPods, each worth £249.99. Registration forms and further information can be obtained by emailing poultry.uk@intervet.com, or calling 01908 685249.
