McCains chip in to help North West potato growers
McCain's commercial agriculture manager will attend an NFU potato event in Lancashire and give the region's spud growers a chance to supply the oven chip giant.
Richard Marcroft will give an overview of the processing sector and potential opportunities for growers to supply McCain at the event which takes place on Monday 25 February at the NFU regional office in Skelmersdale.
NFU North West horticulture board chairman, Sarah Fairhurst, of Southport based Porters Horticultural Ltd, said: "This is a fantastic business opportunity. I would strongly encourage growers to go along and see what McCain have to offer."
Also at the meeting, a representative from the Potato Levy Council will be on hand to talk about the council's priorities for the year ahead.
Sarah added: " In my opinion potato growers should challenge the new levy council on the things they feel should be changed and areas that need to be examined in an open and frank discussion. How do you want your levy spent?"
Finally, NFU potato adviser, Kelly Watson, will provide an update of other policy areas including the CAP health check, pesticides, Nitrate Vulnerable Zones, labour issues and what the NFU is doing in relation to these issues.
The meeting is being sponsored by Appleton Potato Mart and will include a free hot pot supper and dessert. It starts at 7pm.
If you would like to attend, please contact the NFU regional office on 01695 554900 to reserve your place.
