Milk quotas turn Poland’s Agriculture Minister sour



Poland does not like the European Commission's idea of getting rid of milk quotas from 2015. Brussels proposed the disappearance of milk quotas last week, when it presented changes in the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy).

Marek Sawicki, the Polish agricultural minister, said in Brussels that Poland is not ready for such reforms. He added, that poorer areas had to be accounted for, such as the highland regions in the south of Poland. A ban on limits could mean disaster for those districts.



The European Commission wants to life the milk quota regime completely, increasing the said quotas in 2014. Already raises are expected in April 2008. Some Polish farmers are not fussed, as they have already had to pay fines for producing more than the quota allowed.
