More dairy cows, fewer dairy farms in Wisconsin

Even though there are more cows in Wisconsin, the number of dairy herds in the state continues to decline.

Latest numbers from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection say that at the beginning of March, there were 13,918 herds in the state, that is 45 less than in January and 395 less than a year ago. Clark County remains the only county with more than 1,000 herds; in fact they gained 4 herds since January to 1006.
