NFU Deputy President wins farming personality of the year award

NFU Deputy President Meurig Raymond says he is ‘delighted’ after being named farming personality of the year at an awards ceremony in London.

Mr Raymond, who farms in Pembrokeshire with his twin brother and has been NFU Deputy President since 2006, beat 10 other challengers at the Farm Business Food & Farming Industry Awards to scoop the prestigious prize during a ceremony at the House of Commons on Friday night.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the farming personality of the year. However, I would like to pay tribute to everyone who was nominated for the category as we are all playing an important role supporting agriculture.

“Next year will no doubt once again be a challenging one for farming, but there are signs that confidence is returning. The industry is undoubtedly more positive and across the country more and more people from all walks of life are recognising the importance that farming plays in their lives. My goal is to continue to take the farming message to a wider audience so that government and consumers continue to back British farming in the years ahead.”
