The state government is finally going to be running on an approved spending plan now that the Legislature has agreed on a compromised budget agreement this week. On Tuesday, the Assembly passed the measure 60-39, with Senators voting 18-15 in favor of the $57.2 billion package.
Wisconsin farmers have some important stakes in the budget. One of the provisions of the bill include the proposed Dairy Facility Manufacturing Tax Credit, which is a $1.3 million tax credit designed to allow cheese processors in Wisconsin to modernize their facilities. The credit is 10 percent of investments aimed at modernizing cheese processing plants. The maximum tax credit is capped at $200,000 per manufacturer.
