The Lleyn Sheep Society is introducing a new tagging system this year with the objective of inserting an official green "management" tag in the right ear of all registered female sheep.
The new tagging scheme has been introduced this year in order to achieve a clear identity to all registered Lleyn females. It is intended to provide a welcome guide for the increasing number of commercial buyers now turning to the Lleyn ewe and to avoid them unintentionally buying sheep that are not registered.

Cumbria stock breeder John Geldard, chairman of the Lleyn Sheep Society, has been the prime mover behind the new green tag scheme.
He says its will be a boon to buyers and enable them to quickly and positively confirm registered Lleyn sheep.
"We believe we're one of only a few breeds to be introducing such a scheme which is primarily been put in place to assist buyers. The tremendous increase in demand for Lleyn sheep continues but with popularity there's always the risk of sheep being sold under the banner of the Lleyn when they aren't registered stock.
"The green "flag" tag will overcome that problem for buyers who can purchase sheep carrying the green tag with confidence," said Mr Geldard of Levens, near Kendal.
Although the tagging scheme is voluntary there's already been a big demand from breeders who recognise the value of clear identification and the Society very much hopes that all members of the Society will adopt the Society tag.
Father and son team of Eifion and Dewi Ellis run 900 pure-bred Lleyn ewes at Pentrefoelas in North Wales and say they are 100% behind the new tagging scheme.
""It's the way forward for the Lleyn and we hope all flocks will use the official breed society tag. I've supported the idea from the start and am convinced it'll be a big help to purchasers who'll know exactly what they're buying," says Eifion Ellis.
Lleyn sheep breeders will still tag females with their own flock identification tag in the left ear. The new official breed society green tag in the right ear will carry the Lleyn Sheep Society's logo, the sheep's registration number and year letter to denote the age of the sheep.
Pure-bred Lleyn rams born in 2005 and 2006 will carry an official breed society yellow tag on being passed by the Society inspector during 2006.
