New policy to regulate approval, operations of cattle markets

LAHORE: The government on Saturday announced a new policy to regulate functions and sanctions of cattle markets across the province, Local Government and Community Development (LGCD) Department official told Daily Times.

He said the government had banned setting up private cattle markets and it had made obligatory for all Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs) to fulfill legal requirements before getting a cattle market sanctioned.

He said the new policy was meant to regulate the affairs of the markets and to stop 'unnecessary' interruption of the 'cattle mafia' in market affairs. The new policy would also help eliminate malpractices from the cattle markets' operations, he added.

A TMA, under the new policy, had to set up a cattle market either on a purchased land or on its own land in a district or a tehsil, he added.
