New trade restrictions due to further outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease confirmed 12 September 2007
Purpose
To inform you that a further outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has been confirmed in Surrey, England today and advise how this impacts on exports of susceptible animals and their products (including genetic material) from Great Britain (GB).
Intra-Community Trade
You cannot export susceptible live animals to EU member states because there is a new prohibition on the movement of susceptible live animals within GB.
Meat and other animal products (including genetic material, dairy products, petfoods, hides/skins etc) from cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, deer, llamas and other susceptible species should not be exported to EU member states.
Those treated products which have over recent weeks been exported using export certificate 5567EHC (for meat products, milk and milk products, hides and skins of biungulates and other products of slaughtered biungulates with the exception of meat (30 day certificate)) can continue to be traded, regardless of where or when they were produced. This certificate has not been suspended/recalled. Furthermore, the certificate 5563EHC (for products of biungulate origin for human consumption intended for direct retail sale to the final consumer (30 day certificate)) can also continue to be used, but only if the products being loaded for export are supported by 5567EHCs. A further audit of some depots may be required to ensure that products intended for trade are traceable to 5567EHCs.
We have suspended all of the following export health certificates. Exporters should be aware that any TRACES certificates for live biungulates and germplasm from biungulates, and the following certificates for biungulate products, issued over recent days (where product has yet to be dispatched) are no longer valid and are being recalled by Animal Health and local authorities where appropriate.
