Newark Show launches new long service medal

Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society has launched a new long service medal for work in agricultural contracting and agricultural engineering. The medals will be presented annually during the Newark and Nottinghamshire Show and will complement the existing Agricultural Long Service Award.

Medals will be presented for 25 years service with bars being added at 35 and 45 years. In addition, medal and bar winners will receive free entry to the county show for themselves and their immediate family in the year of presentation.

The existing agricultural long service award, presented for the individual with the longest service in that year, will retain its current lifelong free show admission and medal winners can be eligible for nomination for the long service award.

The society's chief executive, Adrian Johnston, said: "As with so much in agriculture today, there is a need to diversify and, by introducing a medal for longevity in the agricultural contracting and engineering industries, means that more people will gain valuable recognition for loyal service.

"To be presented with a long service medal the person must be working and nominated by an employer based in Nottinghamshire at the time of nomination, but previous service within agriculture, agricultural contracting or agricultural engineering – or more than one – and in neighbouring counties, such as Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland or Derbyshire will count.

"We look forward to an increased number of nominations this year and in the future. With long-term employment no longer guaranteed, it is only right that we publicly acknowledge when employees reach these long service milestones. Employers interested in nominating a member of staff for a long service award or medal should contact Jilly or Laura Waddington on (tel: 0870 224 1035) or email: laura@newarkshowground.com."

The Newark and Nottinghamshire Show Long Service Awards and Medals will be presented during the Grand Parade on Sunday 13 May.
