Nominations sought for prestigious potato industry award

Potato Council is seeking nominations for this year's British Potato Industry Award. The award is presented to an individual recognised for their outstanding contribution to the GB potato industry.

Jim Godfrey, chairman of the award committee, commented: "This is a special year for potatoes with the United Nations declaring 2008 the International Year of the Potato – the UK's second most important food crop. The British potato industry is one of the leading potato industries in the world and is made up of many wonderful people who have helped shape it to what it is today. We are asking for nominations of outstanding people for this award from all sectors of the industry."

Anyone wishing to nominate a person for the British Potato Industry Award should send a nomination form to the award committee secretary by 31 July 2008. The award committee, drawn from the different sectors of the GB potato industry, will select the winner.

The winner of this prestigious award will receive a sterling silver rose bowl which will be presented later in the year.
