Nottinghamshire Farm Environment Awards - the final year

For the final time, Nottinghamshire’s farmers have the chance of winning one of three cash prizes in the county’s prestigious Environment Awards. For fifteen years, the awards have sought and found excellent farm conservation practices from around the county, but this year is the last competition in this format.

With just over three weeks till the closing date of 22 June, there is still time to complete the simple entry form and enter to stand a chance of winning one of the three excellent prizes.

Lesley Sharpe, Nottinghamshire Farming and Wildlife’s conservation adviser says: “This is Nottinghamshire’s competition for Nottinghamshire’s farmers and over the years there have been some fantastic winners. We want this year’s competition to “go out with a bang”, so as many farmers who can, should enter: it has a simple entry form, and three cash prizes that will reward quality conservation on commercial farms in the county.”

This year’s competition will award a first prize of £4,000, a second prize of £2,500 and a third prize of £1,500. The prizes will be awarded over all farm types and sizes and everyone is welcome to apply, provided their business is run on a commercial basis in Nottinghamshire.

Andy Guy, NFU’s newly appointed county adviser who is a previous winner of the award, said: “Sustainable farming means thinking about the environment, local communities as well as making a profit. The awards are an excellent way for farmers to demonstrate how they’re creating and enhancing habitats on their farms to help farmland birds, mammals and insects. We’re sad that this will be the final year; the awards have been a very valuable source of investment for our farmers to undertake larger projects on their farms and as a past winner I know just how important the competition is to Nottinghamshire’s farmers.”
