Nuffield Carbon Farming Conference aims to answer carbon footprint questions



The Nuffield Carbon Farming Conference aims to explain the impact of farming practices on climate change and identify opportunities for farmers to reduce their carbon footprint.

Four specialists who have been undertaking research in this field for some time will be the main speakers at the event.

Topics covered will include land-use options for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the implications for the uplands. Case studies of carbon stewardship will also be demonstrated. The conference will also look at opportunities for farmers to profit from anaerobic digestion and biomass production.

A trade exhibition in an adjacent hall will be open to delegates.

Who are the speakers?

Chris Pollock is the former research director of the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER) Aberystwyth. He is studying options for reducing the release of greenhouse gases in UK Farming, and will explain how this can be achieved.

David Hugill is a hill farmer from North Yorkshire, and ex-chairman of the NFU North Riding and Durham region. He will look at the management of the uplands, and how appropriate farming techniques can make a difference.
