OMSCO launches search for 'farmer of the Year' 2008

The Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative (OMSCo), the UK's largest organic dairy cooperative, has launched its search for the 'Farmer of the Year 2008'.

Following the massive interest generated by last year's first ever competition, OMSCo is now seeking award nominations for 2008. The 'Farmer of the Year' is recognised for his or her dedication, innovation and outstanding practice in organic dairy farming. Judges will take into account farmers' contribution to organic farming, their eco-credentials, support for the local community, or any other merits that the farmer displays. The competition is open to OMSCo members only.

The winner will receive the OMSCo Farmer of the Year Trophy, and a £500 voucher to spend for a sporting event, entertainment or holiday of their choice. The runner up will receive a voucher to the value of £250. Last year's winner, Clive Freane from Perridge Farm in Somerset, enjoyed a theatre break in London and a family day out at Ascot ladies' day.

Rosie Palmer, marketing manager at OMSCo commented, "Due to the massive success of last year's competition, we decided to make 'Farmer of the Year' an annual event. There are so many high-calibre OMSCo members and this is a way to recognise our farmers' outstanding contribution to organic dairy farming. If you feel a farmer deserves special recognition, please contact us."
