'Poultry Manure Better Than Fertilizer'

Manure collected from poultry farms is richer, better and cheaper than fertilizer to all forms of crops, former Zamfara State governor and Managing Director of Rufa'i farms, Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima had said.

Yarima who is one of the major farmers in the northern region said for several years now, himself and all his friends and close associates have been using the manure from his poultry farm instead of fertilizer.

"Initially, when I started using the manure in my farms, nobody showed interest. But after some times when my neighbours realized that the crops in my farm were increasingly becoming better than the ones in their farm, they also resulted to using manure.

"All these trucks you see carrying manure from the poultry are taking them to the farm. When you deposit the manure in the farm then you allow it to remain there for sometimes. After one or two years of harvest then you will start seeing the difference," he said.

Senator Yarima said apart from the crops in farms where manure is being used growing better and richer crops than farms where fertilizer is applied, bumper harvest are also noticed on those farms.

He said farms, where manure is being used also resist draught more than farms where fertilizer is been applied because the chemicals in the fertilizer do not resist shortage of water.
