Rural Crime Concerns in Brecon area

Theft of vehicles, fuel and metal were just some of the crimes highlighted by Dyfed Powys Police representatives at a recent meeting with NFU Cymru at the force headquarters in Brecon.

Mark Simpson, NFU Cymru Group Secretary in Brecon said, "The rural community is increasingly concerned, not only for their property, but also for their safety as thefts in rural areas become more common.

"As the price of fuel continues to increase, fuel thefts from farms are becoming more common in the area. Motorists, householders and businesses are all at risk from such thefts and as the price of metal is also soaring, the demand for scrap metal remains high."

Chief Inspector Martin Tavener provided a commitment to improve communications and work closely with NFU Cymru and farmers to address rural crime. He said, "I have listened to the many concerns and worries of farmers in the area and have taken on board their comments. Vigilance is the key to combating these thefts and we would urge farmers and rural dwellers to notify local police of any thefts, unusual activity or suspicious vehicles, as soon as possible, by calling 101."
