Russia Bans Meat from Five Companies RUSSIA - The Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) has banned meat product imports from five foreign plants, because their products did not meet Russian safety and quality standards, Rosselkhoznadzor reports.

Monitoring research of meat products imported into Russia from some US, Spanish and Hungarian companies found some of them were contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria, antibiotics and some other drugs.

Thus, products produced by these companies and shipped to Russia before 27 MArch will be licensed for entry to the country only after a close laboratory testing.

The territorial departments of Rosselkhoznadzor will also carry out complex inspections at the enterprises controlled by the veterinary supervision in order to detect there products produced at those plants and stop distribution of imported dangerous goods.


Recenly, representatives from Rosselkhoznadzor met delegates of the European Commission and Veterinary Services of the main suppliers of livestock products to the Russian market - Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, France, Finland, Czech Republic, Sweden and European Livestock and Meat Trading Union (UECBV) - in Prague.

The discussions concerned the safety of livestock products imported to Russia.

Much attention was focused on improvement of techniques ensuring safety of livestock products controlled by the Rosselkhoznadzor before sending the products from the EU-countries to the Russian importers.
