Skill, strength and ambition needed at the English Shearer of the Year

Skill, strength and ambition of two nations will combine in Builth Wells next weekend.
England’s top shearers will battle it out for the title of English Shearer of the Year 2009 during this year’s Royal Welsh Lamb Shearing Circuit Finals to be held on Friday 21 August.
Shearers have competed at selected Shows throughout the summer on the English circuit and have earned a place in the final through an accumulation of points.
The English circuit is Devon County Show, Northumberland County Show, Royal Bath & West Show, Royal Cornwall Show, Three Counties Show, Romney Shears, Lakeland Shears and Great Yorkshire Show.
All levels of competitors, from novice to expert, will compete in their own final; either Open, Senior, Intermediate or Junior.
In each category, the top ten placings at each Show have been awarded points and from their total collected at all the Shows, the top five shearers have qualified for their respective final.
Lister Shearing Equipment Limited, Dursley, Gloucestershire will award a Lister Nexus Shearing Machine to the English Shearer of the Year (winner of the Open) and a new Lister Handpiece to the winners of the Senior, Intermediate and Junior categories.
Each finalist will also receive prize money from a Prize Fund kindly donated by our sponsors Zintec Feed Supplements, Shobdon, Herefordshire and Laurence Pierce Wool Merchants Ltd. Co. Wicklow, Ireland.
The English finals will be held during the Royal Welsh Lamb Shearing Circuit Finals, Penmaenau Farm, Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, Powys, LD2 3RD on Friday 21 August 2009 commencing at 4.30 pm.
The event will consist of the finals of the Royal Welsh Lamb Shearing Circuit for Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Open competitors, finals of the English Shearer of the Year Award and a Wales v England Test match. A dance will be held on the farm after the shearing has concluded. Camping facilities will be available.
