Support builds for good cane farming practices
Canegrowers has released its 2008 Public Environment Report for the sugarcane industry, which shows that green farming techniques are taking hold in the industry.
The report is the third in a series which seeks to draw together and objectively report on the myriad of initiatives occurring on sugarcane farms along the east coast.
Canegrowers chief executive, Ian Ballantyne, says the report shows that the uptake of improved technology and farming systems has increased rather than slowed, despite a period of continued price turbulence, rain, drought, sharply escalating inputs costs and the spread of the sugarcane disease smut.
