Techneat Environmental now offers farmers a low-cost and fully compliant service to deal with farm waste plastics, reports Environmental Manager, Olibhe Collins.
Farmers across the eastern counties can now have all their waste plastics simply picked and taken away by a new Ely-based recycling business, Techneat Environmental. The dedicated service provides a local, low-cost solution to ensure farmers dispose of their waste in full accordance with environmental legislation that comes into force in May 2007.

Set to be launched at LAMMA in January, Techneat Environmental will collect segregated plastics direct from farm, or enable growers to deliver waste direct to the company's licensed waste management facilities near Ely.
Techneat Environmental's waste processing unit can deal with washed-out pesticide containers, fertiliser bags, silage wrap and horticultural field covering plastics. The company's investment to process plastics on-site minimises cost and the environmental impact of waste transport.
Olibhe Collins, Environmental Manager with Techneat Environmental, reports the company is looking to forge partnerships with farmers, to secure a legally-compliant, low-cost and sustainable recycling route for agricultural waste.
"We will be working with growers to help with the identification, segregation, cleaning and volume reduction of waste plastics," says Mrs Collins. "We are aiming to recycle 100% of the plastics received into new products within the UK, to deliver the best environmental option at the lowest possible cost for all involved."
The company now offers a range of innovative products to manage waste plastics on-farm, designed and engineered by Techneat, including:
• The ChipPE - shreds plastic containers to reduce volume by up to 85%
• The Bag Boxer - compresses fertiliser bags and plastic sheeting by up to 90%
• Can-Drain - Safe self-contained drain tank for rinsed pesticide containers
• Rinse Nozzle - Powerful rotating 360º nozzle for container washing
• Storage Bin - Large capacity recycled plastic storage bin
The full range of Techneat Environmental products and services can be seen at LAMMA 2007 (Newark Showground, 17th & 18th January). Techneat Environmental is a wholly owned subsidiary of Techneat Engineering.
