The Dairy Show 2011 Seminars and Features

The ever popular Dairy Show is to be held this year on Wednesday 5th October at the Bath & West Showground and the organisers are looking forward to another great event with trade stands and cattle classes full of some of the top cattle in the country.

The Show is delighted to showcase a working Lely Robotic Milking system, which will demonstrate the future of dairy technology.

The Glenside Group in conjunction with Pearce Seeds will be carrying out Aeration and seeding displays in the Main Ring with the very latest in machinery.

As well as the top quality livestock there is also a full programme of topical Seminars held throughout the day in the Bath and West Lecture Theatre. Seminars this year include:

The Practical Advantages of a Relaxed Cow ’ Peter Kelly ’ Lely

Peter Kelly learnt practical stockmanship on a mixed farm in Devon and then worked for ADAS for 18 years as a ruminant nutritionist. He then set up his own dairy nutrition consultancy business covering the South West and is always keen to adopt new ideas where they are based on sound science and common sense.

Jan Mourik - Successful Robotic Milking and Feeding

After finishing his Master degree in Dairy feeding, Jan started to work for a Dutch feeding company. After several year of experience in advising farmers and optimising dairy feeds, he started to work for Lely Industries N.V. in 2002. As the number of robotic milking customers started to expand it became clear that the whole of farm management was affected. Within Lely he is now responsible for robotic management advisory and in this role he has visited almost every country where farmers are milking with robots.

The Federation of Small Businesses - Richard Haddock - Farming Today

Richard is a FSB member, Devon Farmer and entrepreneur. He will give his views on issues that as a farmer he believes need to be addressed in giving our farmers a fairer deal.

Peter Edmondson, Shepton Veterinary Group - Mastitis Control in Robotic Herds.

Peter Edmondson has been working with robots for years, troubleshooting and

advising on herds with mastitis and cell count problems. Robots require totally new management and mastitis is one of the diseases which cause particular problems.

Kingshay will be hosting the popular Soil Clinic on their stand. Bring a spade sized sample of your soil with the turf for a free assessment by their experts. Kingshay will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary at the show having launched at the Show back in 1991.
