Three varieties added to oilseed rape list
LSPB’s first full year of marketing their varieties in their own right has given the company a flying start with three of their oilseed rape varieties added to the 2011 HGCA Recommended List and similar success with PGRO Pulse Recommended Lists.
"Sesame has been added to the HGCA oilseed rape RL and is the highest yielding oilseed rape variety on the east/west list at 110% of controls, 3% ahead of the nearest conventional variety in the region," says Theo Labuda, LSPB’s Managing Director.
"Also our hybrid variety, Palace, has been recommended for the east and west region, with its ’7’ score for light leaf spot resistance seen as a big plus. This is a disease that is recognised as a threat to an increased number of crops in the east and west region.
"Our third HGCA RL addition is the club root resistant Cracker, which has been recommended for the east/west region. The variety is a significant yield improvement over Mendel and has effectively replaced Mendel in Scotland this season. Gross output is 97% of controls with a ’9’ for light leaf spot resistance, outshining Mendel’s gross output of 92% .
"Our oilseed rape RL success has been echoed in the PGRO Pulse Recommended Lists with, for example, our spring bean Fury becoming the highest yielding variety on that list, a clear 5% above the current market leader Fuego" adds Mr Labuda.
