Tractors have closed off the entrance of supermarkets in Co Londonderry town as farmers orchestrated a demonstration over the dairy farming crisis in Northern Ireland.

A delegation of farmers also held an emergency meeting with the Agriculture and Rural Development committee which had been recalled from its summer recess.

Dairy farmers in Northern Ireland say they are fed up with the lack of action to help them in this critical situation and so asked for the meeting at Stormont.

Just hours earlier a convoy of tractors lined the grounds of Stormont as farmers staged a protest while an emergency committee meeting was held to discuss the crisis.

Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill has called for intervention at European level to tackle the problem.
