Uganda-Abattoir waste disposal concerns.
UGANDA
HYGIENE PROBLEMS
The government of Uganda, announced last year the building of three new beef export plants for the production of beef. The assistant commissioner of veterinary health Doctor Benon Kyokwijika, however voiced his concerns, into the hygiene practices in the country’s meat industry’s meat handling.
Now the country has had foot-and-mouth-disease and everything is on the back burner, however the new rail link between Kampala and Mombassa is going ahead at the cost of US$3.5 billion. This is being financed by a consortium based in the United Arab Emirates.
The Doctors main concerns appear to be the waste disposal from the abattoirs according to a report in a Kampala daily newspaper this week
