FARMING organisations across Europe backed a campaign by MEPs against compulsory electronic tagging of sheep.
The new rules, due in force next year, would cost farmers an estimated £1.50 for each sheep – only slightly less than the market value of sheep, the Tory MEP Neil Parish warned. Mr Parish delivered a cross-party resolution to the European Commission yesterday.
