Uruguay-Big problems for dairy farmers.

URUGUAY.

DAIRY INDUSTRY COLLAPSES.

The current drought conditions in Uruguay have farmers now in a state of panic, dairy cows are not getting sufficient pasture or water to produce milk.

One farmer who lost three cows, advertised the balance of his small herd at $10 per cow on the internet rather than watch the others die.

The government of Uruguay along with the associations for small dairy producers have declared a state of emergency in the country, in the worse drought since 1926.

Beef farmers are finding it tough but coping, the beef trade is the main trade and milk only for domestic consumption except for 7% of total production, that is exported around one billion liters., while beef exports totaled US$1.33 billion last year.
