WALES GOVERNMENT REPORT ON BOVINE TB.On 8 April 2008 the Minister for Rural Affairs made an announcement on the Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) Eradication Programme. This Programme is being taken forward as part of the One Wales programme for Government commitment to ’vigorously pursue a programme of TB eradication’. This commitment is being backed by an additional £27.7 million of funding over the next three years.

Bovine TB Health Check Wales
Earlier this year the Welsh Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones AM, announced the inception of a bovine TB Eradication Programme in Wales. As a first step in this comprehensive new approach it was also announced that there would be a one off programme of testing of all cattle herds in Wales, irrespective of their current testing interval. This initiative is called the TB Health Check Wales, it will be compulsory for all herds to be included and will commence on 1 October 2008 running until 31 December 2009.

TB in Goats
There has been an outbreak of TB in Goats in Wales and England that includes a case in Carmarthenshire. Animal Health is responsible for the management of this outbreak as well as possible tracings to other goat herds.
