Wind turbines a powerful symbol at EPIC centre



Lincolnshire"e;s greenest building is to get two new helical wind turbines this week – the first to be erected in the county.

The EPIC Centre at the Lincolnshire Showground is a showcase for environmental technologies as well as a state-of-the-art conference and events centre.

On Friday (19th September) the two helical wind turbines are to be installed on either side of the main entrance to the building, which opened at this year"e;s Lincolnshire Show in June.

They are the first of their type to be erected in Lincolnshire and are designed to operate close to buildings and to work without vibration or noticeable sound.

The turbines are constructed from carbon fibre and at more than 15 metres in height they make an eye-catching feature to the main entrance of the EPIC Centre.

"We wanted a design that people can get close to in order to understand the potential for wind energy generation to be non-intrusive and even attractive," said EPIC Project Director Nick Cheffins.

"Renewable wind energy is all around us and we need to be positive about its potential to act as a real alternative to fossil fuels. These turbines will generate at least 15,000 kW hours a year for the EPIC Centre, saving 8,700 kg of CO2.
