Young Farmers helping to change the future of education



Members of the Young Farmers Club grasped a rare opportunity to shape and influence the content of a new national qualification for 14 to 19 year-olds.

They took part in a survey asking for comments on the developing Land-based and Environmental specialised Diploma. The Diploma will ensure that young people have the essential knowledge, capabilities and personal skills that employers in the land-based sector need.

Mike Appleyard, Lantra Regional Partnership Manager said: "We must thank Young Farmers for the help and insight they have given. Without feedback from people working within the industry, we cannot ensure that the Diploma is as relevant and interesting as it should be. I ask everyone involved in agriculture, or indeed any of the environmental and land-based industries, to please get involved and help pave the way for a better future for the sector."

A short questionnaire is available on the Land-based and Environmental Diploma website – http://www.diplomalbe.co.uk. You can also sign up for the latest news on developments and new areas of consultation.

Lantra is working closely with five partner Sector Skills Councils to ensure complete coverage of the industry sector. These are Improve Ltd (food), People 1st (hospitality), Skills Active (sport and leisure), Energy & Utility Skills and Construction Skills Ltd.
