A farmer has labelled the perpetrator of a huge deliberate farm fire which destroyed more than 3,000 bales as “evil”.

A major blaze at Stanton House Farm in Derbyshire is thought to have been deliberately started by arsonists.

The incident happened on Sunday night, November 18.

A spokesman from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said on Monday (November 19) said the service is investigating whether the incident was arson.

He said: "A crew is returning to inspect at around 5.30pm tonight. The probable cause is that it is due to deliberate ignition."

Owners of the farm, E H Kinston and Son, posted a viral post on Facebook explaining how three thousand bales had been destroyed in an act of “evil duty”.

Facebook users have commented on the post calling for swift police action to take place.

One user said: “So awful I hope the police catch the people that did this. People really don’t realise the effects things like this cause to everyone involved.”

Another said: “Dreadful. Some people are completely careless about the effects of the things they do. The consequences on people who work so hard to look after our countryside and provide our food.”
