'Well known and well-respected' farmer dies following traffic collision

A 75-year-old man has died in a Co Derry, Northern Ireland road crash on Tuesday 7 March.

Tributes have been paid to James McCollum, who died when his Land Rover left the Curragh Road near Coleraine and hit a tree.

He was described as a “well known and well-respected” farmer by the local community.

Mr McCollum, who farmed in Blagh, outside the town, was married with a grown-up family.

UUP councillor William McCandless said the community was in shock at the “tragic accident”.

Inspector Purvis has asked anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information which could assist the police investigation to contact officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 753 07/03/17.
