A 28-year-old woman who has close ties to the agricultural industry is running the London Marathon to raise funds for farmers in need.

Annabel James is running the London Marathon for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), who support the farmers in their times of need.

She said the support they offer vulnerable farmers is "vital".

On her online fundraiser page, she says: "So on a bit of a whim in May 2017 I put my name in the pot for the London Marathon, not thinking for a second that I would actually get a place - but here we are and the training is now well underway!

"I am running for RABI as I have such close links with the agricultural industry both personally and professionally - and I know that the support the charity offers to farmers in their times of need is invaluable."

RABI provides short-term help to enable people in the agricultural industry to get back on their feet after a crisis, as well as long-term support, via regular payments and grants.

Annabel continued: "I will be posting regular updates and will be hosting a fundraising event and auction to raise as much money as I possibly can - keep your eyes peeled for details!"

"You can donate through this JustGiving page and any amount, no matter how large or small is so appreciated! I'll also be rattling a bucket around at various events between now and 22nd April 2018."

The industry has seen some innovative and unique ways to raise money for farmers who need help.

In December, a National Farmers' Union adviser took her final steps of her one million walk in aid for two farming charities.

And in July 2016, 18-year-old Jack Walton, a budding auctioneer from Worcestershire, set off on his charity fundraiser travelling over 1,000 miles to raise money for two rural charities.
