A farmer who lives in the Scottish Highlands has had 80 of his sheep stolen by livestock rustlers, valued at around £4,400.

Police Scotland are appealing for information following the theft from a croft in the Nethy Bridge area.

Around 80 sheep, with an approximate value of around £4,400, were reported to have been stolen from land off Lettoch Road sometime between August 31 and Saturday, November 24 when the theft was reported.

The sheep, which are of various breeds, have identification chips in their ear tags, some of which are marked with the number UK548348.

Constable Clare Maclennan said: “We appreciate that is a considerable time period but we are asking people to think back and report any activity in the area which could be considered suspicious to us and report any suspicious activity including unfamiliar vehicles with animal trailers in the area.

“We would be particularly interested in any activity involving unfamiliar vehicles with animal trailers in the area.”

The incident follows news of rustlers stealing over 270 sheep near Bridgwater, Somerset in what the police called a “huge loss for the farmer”.

Anyone who has seen any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting NM3247/18. You can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
