Arla has announced a very slight UK milk price increase

Arla is raising its milk price to owners by one eurocent per kilogramme from 1 August.

When the increase in the on-account price is applied to the UK standard manufacturing litre, the increase equates to an upward movement of 0.81 pence.

This takes the UK standard litre for conventional milk to 29.98 pence.

Commenting on the decision to increase the price, Arla Foods amba board director, Johnnie Russell, said: “I’m pleased that Arla is able to continue to reflect the market sentiment in its milk price for a second consecutive month.

“The current market situation is characterised by strong demand and low stocks of fat and this is driving up prices for products containing fat.

“Meanwhile the protein market remains stable, however at a low level.”

It comes as news that around 33 dairy farmers left the industry in Scotland in the first half of the year.
