Armed police attended a farm in Scotland to reports of a tiger in a farmer's shed, only to discover the animal was in fact a stuffed toy.

Police attended a farm in the Hatton area of north east Scotland last weekend when a farmer thought he saw a big cat sitting in his cowshed.

But when the officers, armed with firearms, reached the farm they discovered that it was a stuffed tiger toy.

The farmer, who has not been named, said he was “very embarrassed” by the false alarm.

A photo of the toy, which was said to be "near life-size", was sent to the police. They then contacted local zoos and wildlife parks to see if any tigers were on the loose.

The police had a "stand-off" with the stuffed animal for around an hour, before realising that the tiger was indeed a toy.

Facebook page UK Cop Humour said: "Photographs of said tiger were sent to the control room and an expert Sergeant confirmed it was definitely real.

"Cue numerous units, including three ARV’s and a dog handler, being sent to the farm to tackle this beast.

"Nervous radio updates start coming in stating that it was unclear if the Tiger has eaten any cattle but it appeared well fed and it’s ears were seen to twitch, but other than that it was very settled.

"After some time a rather sheepish sounding Sergeant comes on the air and declares that it was indeed a stuffed toy!"
