A farm has been the target of arsonists in Thorney, Cambridgeshire - a blaze which lasted for more than 24 hours.

The fire lit the 40 by 20 metre barn on Bukehorn Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (March 26) after a deliberate start to the fire.

Four fire crews were called to the barn fire just after midnight. The barn, used for agricultural storage, contained farm machinery and about 300 tonnes of potatoes.

Firefighters used a Multistar appliance to access the roof in order to cut away roof panels to gain access and provide ventilation after the fire spread to 500 pallets inside the building.

Crews used two covering jets to extinguish the fire and returned to their stations by 4.43am.

The cause of the fire was deliberate. It was the second arson attack in Bukehorn Road over the weekend.

A fire crew from Thorney were called to the same location of Friday, March 24, at 11pm.

Anyone with information about either arson attack should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
