At last, a reason to like Tracy Barlow

She’s the face of one of the most hated females on TV. But now the Ranger can reveal at least one reason to like Coronation Street’s Tracy Barlow because Kate Ford, the actress who plays the Street’s lying, cheating, immoral, unmarried mum, is in real life a high profile supporter of free range eggs.

The London-based TV star is a farmer’s daughter who has a keen interest in animal welfare and has become an active supporter of the campaigning group Compassion in World Farming.

So while Tracy has been getting herself pregnant in a one night stand, drugging and seducing café owner Roy Cropper and convincing him he was the father, selling him the baby for £25,000 and then changing her mind—not to mention having a cat fight at the christening with the real father’s new wife—Kate has been applying pressure in the Granada TV catering department.

“I’ve already spoken to the caterers and made sure that the meat and eggs they buy are free range or organic,” she told the CIWF magazine Farm Animal Voice. “I won’t eat their eggs until I’ve made sure they’re definitely free range.”

Kate, who also happens to be a skilled horse rider and show jumper, added that as she grew up on a farm she has always been well aware of issues surrounding farm animal welfare. And always needs to know where the food she is eating has come from.

“It’s something I’ve always done,” she said. “The same goes for any boyfriend I have, I will always make them eat free range or organic too.”
