The CLA has said it was dismayed Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin failed to mention property owners in last night’s HS2 debate.
The organisation said Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin and Shadow Transport Secretary Mary Creagh simply ignored the plight of landowners while promoting the benefits of HS2.
CLA President Henry Robinson said: “Property owners along the route have suffered for the past four years due to this project, and will continue to suffer as it progresses.
“Many farmers and businesses will face ruin. Some will lose their whole holding but others will lose substantial areas of land or have land spilt in two, damaging its viability.
“Many landowners will be stuck managing what is left because not only is the compensation offered inadequate to cover the real impact of the loss, it is nearly always paid out too late for necessary re-investment to be made in a timely manner.”
The CLA said the debate held in the House of Commons last night highlighted the Government’s indifference to the real damage that is already being done due to the scheme.
Mr Robinson added: “Those set to lose property to HS2 Ltd are suffering right now as they have suffered for many years.
“The Government appears to prefer to ignore this fact and concentrate on a vision in which landowners, farmers and rural businesses do not feature.”
