A complete dispersal sale of a suckler cow herd, implements, machinery, tractors and 50 acres of winter grass keep will be held next month following a couple’s decision to retire from a Powys-Shropshire border farm after 39 years.

The sale at Henffordd, Churchstoke, near Montgomery on Friday, September 9 is being organised by auctioneers Halls on behalf of Jack and Bessie Jones, who are retiring to a bungalow in the village.

The sale starts at 3pm with the cattle followed by the implements and machinery at 5pm.

The couple have sold quality store cattle from their suckler cow herd at Halls’ Bishops Castle Market, where Jack has worked for around 20 years.

The herd comprises a selection of 46 Limousin cross and British Blue cross cows with Limousin calves at foot as well as some useful store cattle.

All the cattle were tested clear on August 12 and there has not been a case of TB on the farm within the last 10 years.

“It promises to be a good, old fashioned farm dispersal sale and it’s nice to include cattle for a change,” said auctioneer James Evans, a director of Halls.

“Jack and Bessie are a well known local couple who have farmed in the area for most of their lives and have a long association with Halls.

“The implements and machinery in the sale have been well maintained and are a fair representation of what is expected of a 50-acre livestock and grass farm.”

Tractors on offer include a David Brown 885 with front end loader, a Renault 651 with Quickie 2230 front end loader and a Deutz-fahr DX 4.70.

Implements and machinery include a Marshall muck spreader, a Griffiths 6.5 tonne tipping trailer, a four drey hay trailer and an Ifor Williams TA510G 12ft livestock trailer.

Also to be sold on the day are 143 round bales of silage and 50 acres of winter grass keep until the end of February, 2017 at Henffordd and Sarn.
