A 49-year-old Co Antrim farmer has died after what was believed to be an accident involving a tractor.

James Moore, who died in Templepatrick, lost his life on Sunday afternoon (6 August) in the tragic accident.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the circumstances of his death.

DUP MP Paul Girvan said that the tragedy shows how fragile life is.

He said: “It is a tragedy like this that shows how fragile life is. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.”

The incident comes only days after the end of Farm Safety Week (July 24-28).

The Farm Safety Partnership said many farmers never stop to consider why animals behave as they do and, more importantly, what this behaviour could mean to their personal safety.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) figures from the 2016/17 period showed agriculture is the most dangerous UK profession, with 27 work-related.
