Colin Gravatt, Feed and Pullet Specialist for Humphrey Feeds and Farms was named 2015’s South West Poultry Person of the Year in recognition of his contributions to the poultry sector throughout the region.

The award was made by the South West Chicken Association (SWCA) at their industry Christmas Dinner in December at the Hilton Cadbury House Hotel near Bristol.

Presenting the award, SWCA Chairman Robert Lanning described Colin as a most worthy winner, whose activities span both the broiler and layer industries: “Colin works enthusiastically, and with quiet good humour, on behalf of both producers and the trades and plays a major role in organizing work and social events that build stronger links and better understanding. This is a great opportunity to thank not only Colin, but also Humphrey Feeds, for their continuing support.”

A member of the SWCA committee - and also a founding member of the South West Layers Association - Colin has worked in the poultry industry for over 27 years and has been a Humphrey Feeds specialist since 2002, supplying bespoke diets and advice to meet the needs of free range and organic customers.

“Colin brings his experience and energy to all areas and aspects of the industry,” said Mr Lanning. “This year he could be found at the North Somerset Countryside Day, an educational event for 2,600 school children, introducing them to the poultry feed industry as a future career.”

“I was delighted but very surprised to win this award, and this amazing trophy,” said Colin,. “I always find working closely with farmers, work and trade colleagues most rewarding and feel that the industry, and its future, can only benefit by us building stronger relationships.”
