Country estate at auction

A chance to join the landed gentry is up for grabs at Bigwood and Bond Wolfe's next joint auction at Villa Park Conference Centre on Thursday, July 26.

Bigwood's Stratford-upon-Avon office is offering Blaythorn Estate at Drakes Broughton in Worcestershire.

Bigwood director Christopher Ironmonger said: "This is an ideal opportunity to acquire a small country estate in this most attractive part of the Worcestershire countryside, especially for those interested in rural pursuits such as shooting or equestrian sports."

Three elements of the estate are being offered with a combined guide price of £450,000. The estate in total covers 43.92 acres but buyers can bid just for the main house, known as Fort Gran, a modern detached farmhouse of Colt dormer construction, which stands in 1.458 acres. The suggested guide price is in excess of £200,000.

Or they can opt to try for the half timbered period barn together with adjoining Dutch barn, other outbuildings and pasture land covering 7.56 acres in total, with a guide price in excess of £140,000.

The third lot includes an extensive area of freehold woodland, together with sporting rights, over 34.81 acres is expected to realise more than £110,000.

Christopher Ironmonger said: "We are expecting fierce bidding for a country estate of this quality and potential. Blaythorn Estate is in a beautiful part of the country near Pershore and the main house, together with the pasture land and adjoining extensive woodland, all add up to an impressive package.

"The outbuildings, together with a fine period half timbered barn must have some degree of potential for future conversion, subject to the necessary planning consents."
