Following Theresa May's reshuffle after last week's general election, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs ministerial team remains the same.

The only change Defra experienced is the appointment of Michael Gove as Environment Secretary, who is now the man in charge of food, farming and environment policy in the UK.

On Wednesday (14th June) Defra confirmed that ministers Therese Coffey, George Eustice and Lord Gardiner of Kimble will remain at the department.

George Eustice, a Cornwall MP, saw his majority reduced from 7,000 to just over 1,500 in last Thursday’s vote.

He has been a Defra Minister since May 2015. His return brings continuity to the farming brief at a time when agricultural policy is set to be the subject off a fundamental review as the UK prepares for life outside the EU.

Therese Coffey, a Suffolk MP, has been the minister responsible for the air quality portfolio since her appointment to the Department last summer, as well as holding responsibility for work on the natural environment, floods and resource management.

Lord Gardiner was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Rural Affairs and Biosecurity on 14 June 2017.

Lord Gardiner served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from 17 July 2016 to June 2017. He is a Conservative member of the House of Lords.
