East midlands tenant farmers join forces on rents

The Tenant Farmers Association's East Midlands Region is holding a series of Rent Discussion Groups in the coming weeks to encourage farm tenants to join forces in dealing with their landlords' demands for rent reviews.

TFA East Midlands Regional Chairman Harold Russell said "The East Midlands region has always had a strong tradition of tenant farmer, rent discussion groups. With the large increase in the number of rent review notices served by landlords recently, the importance of tenants working together cannot be underestimated. I would encourage all tenant farmers to join the TFA and get out to one of the local, East Midland groups. Each group has an experienced rural chartered surveyor from the TFA's national panel of recommended professionals so we have top quality expertise on hand for advice and to answer any questions that might be raised. "

The dates and locations for the Rent Discussion Groups which all start at 7:30pm are as follows:

06 February: East Coast Group, Woodthorpe Country Club near Alford, Lincolnshire

20 February: Lovedon Group, Grange Farm, North Rauceby, Lincolnshire

26 February: Five Bells, Edenham, near Bourne, Lincolnshire

05 March: North Notts Group, The Sun Inn, N Wheatley near Retford, Nottinghamshire

06 March: South Notts Group, Village Hall, Coslton Bassett Nottinghamshire

27 March Anker Group, The Globe Inn, Snarestone – Leicestershire

Anyone wanting to attend must register their interest with the Groups' Secretary Harriet Huntsman on 07778 002858 or by email on hhuntsman@btinternet.com. There will be a small charge to cover costs.

"No organisation other than TFA can provide the comprehensive advice and information required by tenant farmers at this time. With the rent discussion groups, specific guidance notes, advice from its Head Office, an on-line rent databank, a recommended list of rural chartered surveyors and a market leading insurance product which will cover the costs of going to arbitration to defend a landlord's unreasonable demand for extra rent, the TFA provides all you need" said Mr Russell.

The TFA will also be rolling out a national road-show on farm rents with venues and dates to be announced shortly. More details are available from TFA Head office.
