Fairburn opt for CHEP System

CHEP, the world’s leading provider of pallet and container pooling solutions, announced that LJ Fairburn & Son Limited, one of the UK’s leading producers of eggs, poultry and feed, has signed an agreement for managed pooled pallets across the country, replacing white exchange pallets.

The new agreement between the two companies will see CHEP become the sole pallet provider for LJ Fairburn & Son Limited supplying an estimated 60,000 pallets per annum from its Pontefract Service Centre in West Yorkshire. The pallets supplied will be an equal split of the industry standard B1210A pallets (1200x1000mm) as well as the B1208A Euro pallet (1200x800mm).

LJ Fairburn’s Brand Director, Sarah Louise Fairburn, said: “From the beginning, our whole experience of dealing with CHEP has been a very pleasant one. For a business the size of ours, to be able to tap in to the level of supply chain expertise that exists within CHEP is simply fantastic. They’ve helped us to improve the efficiency of our overall supply chain, resulting in a very cost effective solution for our business, supporting our growth plans.”

“CHEP’s nationwide network and unrivalled levels of acceptance across the UK has been key to the agreement. We also know that the pooling model gives us the flexibility to expand and contract as and when demand dictates. Platform availability and the supply chain expertise of CHEP’s dedicated Account Manager have also been crucial for us.”

LJ Fairburn & Son is a family run business that has evolved considerably since it was first established in 1951, and now produces over eight million eggs a week. In addition, it also has a well-established poultry rearing business with 1,750,000 birds for own use as well as for re-sale. The third aspect of its business is the production and milling of over 78,000 tonnes of feed every year which includes grain farmed from its 1,600 acres of arable land and other local sources.

CHEP UK & Ireland Managing Director, Howard Wigham, said: “It’s always great to welcome on board a new customer in to the CHEP pool. It’s also really pleasing when we’re helping such a long-established family run business to grow in this way as we help them to move, store and protect their goods through their supply chain in a cost effective, safe and environmentally sound way.”

About LJ Fairburn & Son

LJ Fairburn was founded in 1951 by Mr. Leslie James Fairburn with only £150 and 150 chickens. Since then the business has evolved over the past 60 years and we now produce over 8 million eggs a week ranging from organic, woodland organic, free range, woodland free range, barn and our colony eggs.

In addition we also have a well-established rearing business rearing in excess of 1,750,000 birds for our own use and for resale. We also produce and mill over 78,000 tonnes of feed every year which includes grain farmed from our 1,600 acres of arable land and other local sources. Due to the close proximity of all our facilities and the total integration of our processes, we continue to produce the freshest eggs in the UK.

We are a genuine family run business, and since Leslie James founded the business ownership has passed on to son Stuart and wife Judy and is now run by their three children Daniel, Sarah, Caroline and daughter-in-law Sarah-Louise.
