Around fifty cows escaped from a farm last night and ran riot around the streets of Manchester.

Residents of Trafford watched the cows roam the streets, entering gardens and damaging cars.

The cattle escaped from Dunbar Farm on Little Ees Lane in Sale.

Stephen Bell, a HGV driver, gave a helping hand. He rounded up around 15 cows into a dead end on Ripon Grove, before calling the police. He had never herded cattle before.

Speaking of the moment he spotted the cattle, he told Manchester Evening News: “I saw them running up and down Belmont Road, where I live.

“I started to follow them to see where they were going.

“They went into a garden and I helped herd them into a dead end on Ripon Grove. They ended up in someone’s garden, ripping through all of the bushes. They were just eating grass without a care in the world.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “The cows have managed to free themselves from Dunbar Farm. We spoke to the farmer who said about 50 cows escaped.

“We are trying to get them back. He has got about 20 back so far. They have separated off into little clusters.”
